The National Trust : Founded in 1895 it was set up to act as a guardian for the nation in the acquisition and protection of threatened coastline, countryside and buildings. It now cares for over 612,000 acres of countryside in England Wales and Northern Ireland. It is a registered charity with over 3 million members.
